Here you will find information on the care of Green Iguanas (Iguana, iguana). This is a spacious section so each page has its own topics. This is the intro page and the pages hereafter are dedicated to specific areas. I'm not going to publish an entire book here, but I will give you the bare essentials to get you started in researching the proper needs for your green iguana. I have numerous sites, books and such to recommend to you as well.

I've been researching, rehabbing and rescuing green iguanas for 15 years now. Only within the past couple years have a started adopting them out and as always, I LOVE to educate people on them. They are an amazing, fascinating species that is often taken for granted. They are not some dumb lizard that can't do more than eat and poop, they are VERY intelligent little green gems and this must be taken into account before you think that iguanas are some cheap, disposable animal. Far from it! :D If taken care of properly, these animals are an absolute joy to have and live with.
Many people know that I do NOT advocate giving these lizards to children as pets. If you are looking to give your child a wonderful pet lizard they can play and interact with, I would highly suggest either a leopard gecko or bearded dragon. These are GREAT starter lizards for anyone and an absolute joy to work with. Iguanas should remain for those dedicated to care for them properly, watch out for your own safety and take the time and effort into properly socializing these beautiful creatures. Far too many times I get emails, calls and people showing up to work claiming they "used" to have an iguana and we ended up getting rid of him/her because he/she was "vicious." Bottom line, if you don't socialize your iguana, you will have a monster on your hands. If they are well socialized, you will have an independant green mind watching your every move and delighting you with their antics.
99% of the time the reason I hear of people getting rid of their iguanas is due to it not being socialized and they blamed it on the iguana as just being mean or evil. This is just not the case.
There is so much more to an iguana than just a potentially huge, beautiful lizard.

So, without further stalling (lol) keep sifting through the pages. Email me with any questions, comments or just chit chat. ;D

Hugs!
